Bansko Resort
Bansko is the newest & fastest developing ski resort in south-west Bulgaria. It has managed to combine the latest technological developments with the authentic atmosphere of a Bulgarian village. It has the qualities of a unique settlement with a large number of cultural monuments and traditional architecture. Bansko welcomes around 250,000 people every year but with the speedy development of the resort, the construction of new hotels, and the growing number of services offered to tourists the number of visitors is said to triple in the next couple of years.
Location
The geographic location of the town Bansko allows a great flow of visitors from the Balkan countries, although a lot of Europeans prefer Bansko to the resorts of their own countries. Compared to other holiday destinations and ski resorts, Bansko is exceptional in that it attracts visitors in both the summer and the winter. The town is located amongst beautiful landscapes with mountain hills and valleys, several lakes and a river, and is a paradise for summer holidaymakers who choose sports and leisure activities like trekking, rafting and mountaineering.
Surrounded by the Pirin Mountains, the Rila Mountains, and the Rhodope Mountains, in terms of its climate Bansko is a mountain resort having short hot summer and long mild winter.
Investment
Not surprisingly, the Financial Times recently described Bansko as the best ski resort in Eastern Europe, in terms of number, design and equipment of ski runs. This assessment was made after Bansko absorbed the largest amount of investment, over EUR 40 million, in preparation for the ski season for the third year running.
